A major campaign has been launched to ensure food safety in the country. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with the states, has intensified inspections and enforcement to ensure safe food for all.

FSSAI sets regulations and standards throughout this system, while states are responsible for licensing, inspections, and enforcement.

Significantly, approximately 98% of food business operators (FBOs) fall under state jurisdiction, meaning the ultimate responsibility lies with the states.

Police action on FSSAI data leak

  1. Meanwhile, the government has clarified its position regarding the FIR filed in connection with the leak of information related to the FSSAI investigation. Government sources say that this action is not being taken to suppress the media, but to apprehend those who leaked confidential information.
  2. According to sources, the FIR filed with the Delhi Police is against unknown individuals. No journalist or media organization has been targeted. The investigation is solely aimed at finding out who leaked sensitive information from within FSSAI.
  3. It has been reported that FSSAI initiated its own investigation into the recruitment complaints, which is still ongoing. The final report of this investigation has not yet been prepared, but portions of the investigation were leaked on social media, compromising the confidentiality of the entire matter.
  4. Officials say that such leaks hamper the investigation process and give potential perpetrators an early warning. Therefore, strict action is necessary. Sources clarified that the police investigation's sole purpose is to maintain the investigation's credibility and hold accountable those who sabotage the process.
