Trump worried about high oil prices, may lift sanctions on Iranian oil stuck in tankers

The US is considering lifting sanctions on 140 million barrels of Iranian oil trapped in tankers to boost supply and lower prices. This move may be temporary, but it could impact both markets and politics.

The US may soon lift sanctions on Iranian oil currently trapped in tankers. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this would increase global supply and help lower oil prices.

He stated that approximately 140 million barrels of Iranian oil are lying at sea, which, if released, could be equivalent to 10 days to two weeks of supply.

Trump government's big plan

US President Donald Trump is considering taking this step to control rising oil prices. According to reports, this decision could be temporary, similar to the relief previously provided on Russian oil.

If this happens, it would be a reversal of Trump's Maximum Pressure policy, which has been in place since 2016, which imposed strict economic sanctions on Iran.

Why did oil prices increase?

Tensions in the Middle East and attacks by Iran have affected oil and gas supplies. Blockages in vital routes like the Strait of Hormuz have further driven up prices. Brent crude oil prices have risen from $79 per barrel before the war to $119.

What will be the effect?

If Iranian oil enters the market, it could provide some relief to prices. But it would also provide significant temporary economic benefits to Iran, as it would be able to sell oil without sanctions.

Increased pressure in America

Rising oil and gas prices have impacted the common man in the United States. Gasoline prices have also risen sharply, reaching near a 30-year high.

This impact is also visible on the US economy. Recently, growth has been just 0.7%, unemployment has risen, and manufacturing jobs have declined.

Overall, the US is attempting to bring prices under control by lifting sanctions on Iranian oil. However, this move could have significant political and economic implications.
