India increased its strength amid Iran-Israel war, made a deal worth Rs 5000 crore

Amid the Iran-Israel conflict, India has strengthened its maritime security with a major defense deal worth ₹5,083 crore (US$1.5 billion). This will provide the army with new ALH helicopters and the navy with Shtil missile systems, further enhancing its defense against aerial threats.

India iran deals

Amid the ongoing Iran-Israel tensions in the Middle East, India has taken a major step to strengthen its maritime and air defenses.

The Ministry of Defense has approved two significant defense deals worth approximately ₹5,083 crore. This decision comes at a time of uncertain global circumstances and greater need to secure maritime borders.

The government has signed a ₹2,901 crore contract with HAL, under which the Indian Coast Guard will receive six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III for maritime roles. These are modern twin-engine helicopters, considered more capable and safer than existing helicopters.

These helicopters can take off from land-based air bases and operate from ships at sea.

They will be used for various missions, including maritime surveillance, suspicious activity monitoring, relief and rescue operations, and fisherman safety.

The government says their deployment will also help in projects such as the construction of artificial islands, sea bases, and environmental protection.

Self-reliant India will get a boost

More than 200 MSME companies from across the country will participate in this project. It is expected to generate approximately 6.5 million hours of employment. This means this deal will not only be beneficial for security, but also for employment and domestic industries.

State-of-the-art missile systems for the Navy

The second contract, worth ₹2,182 crore, is for the Surface-to-Air Vertical Launch Shtil missile system. This agreement was signed with Russia's state-owned defense export company, JSC Rosoboronexport.

This missile system will enable the Indian Navy's frontline warships to defend against aerial threats. Its unique feature is its ability to react rapidly in all weather conditions and protect ships from enemy aircraft, drones, or missile attacks.

This will further strengthen the Navy's multi-layered air defense system. According to the Ministry of Defense, this deal also strengthens the India-Russia defense partnership.

Given the current geopolitical situation, this move by India clearly signals that the country will not compromise on the security of its borders and maritime interests.
