Samsung dominates the tablet market! Dethroning Apple to become the No. 1 smartphone market; market growth 2% annually
India's tablet PC market saw a 2 percent growth in 2025, with Samsung leading the way. Sales for Apple and Acer declined. This year, the shift towards premium devices led to a significant surge in exports, with local production accounting for half of annual shipments. This market is expected to expand further in 2026.

According to a report released by Counterpoint Research on Thursday, India's tablet PC market grew by 2 percent year-on-year in 2025. Samsung led the supply segment, while Apple and Acer saw a decline in shipments.
Anshika Jain, Principal Analyst at Counterpoint Research, said that there was a clear shift towards premiumization in the Indian tablet market, primarily due to major brands strategically launching new versions of their products.
Jain said that the ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 price segment emerged as the fastest-growing segment. Shipments in this segment increased by almost 7 times, reflecting consumers' increasing preference for high-performance devices.
Samsung's tablet PC supply to the Indian market grew 15 percent year-over-year, helping the company achieve a 31 percent market share in 2025, compared to 27 percent in 2024.
The report states that Samsung will maintain its market dominance in 2025, primarily due to the dominance of the Galaxy Tab A9 series in the first three quarters of the year.
Subsequently, in the fourth quarter of 2025, the company launched its next series, the Galaxy Tab A11.
This further strengthened Samsung's position in the ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 segment, while maintaining its presence in the premium segment through the Galaxy Tab S portfolio.
Apple has this much market share
Apple ranked second in 2025, behind Samsung. Despite a 2 percent year-on-year decline, Apple's market share remained at 20 percent. According to the report, Apple remained in second place.
The 128GB Wi-Fi variant of the iPad (2025) emerged as the best-selling model in the ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 segment. This significantly influenced the market's premium mix (the proportion of premium products) in the second half of 2025.
Furthermore, the iPad Pro series accelerated the penetration of products with OLED displays, further strengthening Apple's position in the high-performance segment.
Lenovo achieved a 15 percent market share with a 24 percent increase in supply, while Xiaomi achieved an 11 percent market share with a 74 percent increase in shipments.
Acer, on the other hand, experienced a 50 percent decline in supply, resulting in its market share falling from 21 percent in 2024 to 10 percent in 2025. The report also states that 2025 will be a turning point for the tablet manufacturing sector in India.
Export of tablets
According to the report, "Led by Samsung and Lenovo, tablet exports have surged to over one million units, compared to negligible levels in previous years.
These tablets were primarily shipped to key markets in the US and Europe. Additionally, domestic production accounted for 50 percent of annual shipments, indicating accelerating localization.
This dual momentum has not only established India as a rapidly growing consumption market but also strengthened its position as a strategic manufacturing hub within the global tablet supply chain."
Counterpoint estimates that, building on the strong momentum seen in the fourth quarter of 2025, the Indian tablet market is expected to see robust growth in 2026.
